Day 1
A long drive to Longreach today. 4.30am start. Whose idea was that!
Some chilly weather to start the trip off passing through Toowoomba at 7 degrees then coffee at Oakey at 4 degrees.
Heaps of road works between Miles and Augathella, the bridge at Mitchell down to one lane. A lot of flood damage it seems. The river bank at Mitchell looks pretty ordinary with many big old gums down.
Many travelers heading West, a crew in an vintage bus one of the more interesting. Met a guy camped on the Dogwood Creek at Miles enjoying breakfast with his traveling companion a pet rooster. Corellas rule the skies here.
Dropped into Jackson (East of Roma) to visit the memorial put up in small park for Marg’s Mum and Dad. Surrounded by small veggie gardens and natives trees all looking good, pretty amazing given this can be tough country. Great to see locals looking after this special place.
Plenty of water about and the country looks great. Plenty of Wildlife. Birds of prey – Kites, Hobbies and Wedgetail Eagles. Sighted some Brolgas! Unfortunately some wildlife flat on the road and as the night approached we spent plenty of time trying not to create more.
Stopped at Longreach at friends place, Kris and David, for the night. Hot dinner waiting for us and plenty of wine finished a marathon drive off very nicely. With no moon late at night the sky is ablaze with stars.

Sounds like a good day’s travelling. Long time since we did a trip to Blackall my old stamping ground and we had three young kids. Pleased that everything has gone so well. Keep safe and good that you are keeping an eye out for the wildlife.
Jan
